The following is from the Salem-Keizer School District Tech Director: Due to a critical security issue we identified last year when using “generic” passwords for students, we needed to implement a new password policy for all K-12 students starting with the 2016-2017 school year. The new password policy will use an initial password that contains the students first initial and last initial and their birthdate, with no leading zeros (see examples below). All students will be required to enter a new password on their initial login to a PC. Students can use their Google Accounts (and therefore Chromebooks) using this initial password without resetting it, however, once they log into a PC and are forced to reset their password, their Google Account password will be updated accordingly. |
Examples:
Billy Smith, who's birthday is 1/1/2004, would have a password of bs112004 Billy Smith, who's birthday is 10/15/2005, would have a password of bs10152005 Billy Smith-Jones, who's birthday is 7/22/2006, would have a password of bs7222006 Jane Doe, who's birthday is 11/2/2005, would have a password of jd1122005 |
